New Clinical Trial BURSTs onto the Scene for Prostate Cancer Treatment

A groundbreaking new clinical trial—the LDR BURST Study—is set to begin recruitment. Led by Dr Carla Perna and Dr William Hayhurst, the trial will compare two advanced radiotherapy techniques: Low Dose Rate (LDR) Brachytherapy and Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT).

The LDR BURST study was recently showcased by Dr. William Hayhurst and Dr. Christos Mikropoulos at the prestigious GEC ESTRO workshop in Belgrade, where the presentation drew enthusiastic interest from leading UK and European cancer centres. With the protocol now being shared across institutions, the trial is poised to expand into a multi-centre international randomised clinical trial.

Currently in its final setup phase, the LDR BURST team is preparing to open recruitment and begin evaluating which treatment offers better outcomes and fewer side effects for patients. This marks a significant step forward in personalised prostate cancer care.

Stay tuned for updates as the BURST study launches and reshapes the future of radiotherapy.
